Updates On Daemons of the Shadow Realm (Yomi no Tsugai) Anime Release
Daemons of the Shadow Realm (Japanese title: Yomi no Tsugai) is the highly anticipated new anime adaptation from Fullmetal Alchemist creator Hiromu Arakawa. The story originally began as a manga serialized in Monthly Shōnen Gangan under Square Enix in December 2021.
As you’d expect from Arakawa, it dives deep into dark fantasy territory — a world where humans can command supernatural beings known as Daemons. The plot centers on a pair of twins, Yuru and Asa, who are separated at a young age. Each holds a mysterious connection to these Daemons and a greater destiny that ties into the balance of their world. As the story unfolds, it promises an emotional reunion, political intrigue, and the signature blend of action, mystery, and heartfelt storytelling that made Fullmetal Alchemist a classic.
The anime adaptation was officially announced in July 2025, sending waves of excitement across the fandom. It’s being produced by Bones Film, a division of Studio Bones — the same powerhouse studio behind Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and My Hero Academia. The project is helmed by Masahiro Andō, known for Sword of the Stranger and Hanasaku Iroha, with Noboru Takagi handling series composition and Nobuhiro Arai designing the characters. Music will be composed by Kenichiro Suehiro, whose work on Re:Zero and Golden Kamuy ensures the anime’s tone will have both emotional depth and cinematic flair.
Voice actors Kenshō Ono (as Yuru) and Yume Miyamoto (as Asa) will lead the cast, joined by Yūichi Nakamura and Misaki Kuno in supporting roles. The adaptation is confirmed to premiere in April 2026, running for two consecutive cours, meaning fans can expect a full half-year of content without seasonal breaks. Crunchyroll has secured the global streaming rights, ensuring it’ll be easily accessible to international audiences when it drops.
All in all, Daemons of the Shadow Realm looks like another potential epic in the making — dark, emotional, and philosophically rich, exactly the kind of layered storytelling Arakawa is known for.
